The Mental Balance Sheet

Have you ever been in a position where your buttocks are on the chair and your waist in the air? Exactly. The past week has been like that. Oops! I'm sorry if you didn't get that. You'd have to read between the lines.
Two posts ago, I told you about my job. Can you remember? It's right here. Something is happening again *grins*

The company's accountant started a programme that requires him to spend less time at the office. It's been more than a week.

The role of an accountant is very crucial to every organisation. An accountant processes financial data into information that helps managers make decisions about allocating resources. Why am I telling you this? Because I'd like you to understand a bit of what I'm going through on my desk right now.*laughs* No, It's not so bad.

Some daily financial accounting duties have now been added to my responsibilities. I can't explain why accountancy wouldn't let me be. The harder I try to avoid it, the faster it comes chasing after me. (It also happened during my NYSC year, that's a story for another post) Don't get me wrong, I don't hate Financial Accounting. My job just got a bit more challenging. And I'm not complaining. In fact, I'm grateful.

A challenge is anything that tests your strength, ability and skills. Most times in a very interesting way. Challenges stimulates creativity, it triggers one's intellect. It inspires the mind to think. So you see? It's really a good thing.

Playing the role of an accountant this past week reminded me of this article I wrote when I was in JSS 3. At the time when I first got to understand how to prepare a simple balance sheet.

The Mental Balance Sheet

Capital= Belief/Faith
Drawings= Sin
Fixed Asset= Character
Current Asset= Vision
Current Liability= Bad Influence
Currency= Time
Goodwill= Reputation
Stock= Daily Decisions
Debtors= Challenges
Creditors= Fears
Long-term Liabilities= Vows
Net Profit= Success
Net Loss=Failure

Although I wrote this article more than ten years ago, yet it just made more sense to me. When there are many things happening so fast, we tend to be taken off balance. At such times, we might struggle for a focus. This is the time to stay balanced from within. To keep in with the inner glow. Everything happening is to bring out the best in us. It is our duty to let the light within us shine out even in the dark and gloomy days. No experience is a waste.

Maximize your currency (Time), develop your assets (Character and Vision), and keep your capital in check (Faith).

My passion for the media occupies the biggest part of my heart. But when Accounting forcefully sits on my back, I have no choice than to remember that I indeed studied Accountancy at the university.

One step at a time, we shall get there. Let's keep the mind working.

And with greater power comes greater responsibilities. I'm on my glasses and busy with the company's Petty Cash Account now.

Thanks for reading.
