It's been barely a month since I started writing articles on news and entertainment for uche and moyo. But this morning, as the project supervisor said, "I need you to be controversial. Criticize the news. Be a critic." It felt like I'd been told to drink a bottle of kunu (how I detest the taste of kunu).
According to Wikipedia, a critic is a professional who communicates his or her opinions and assessments of various forms of creative work such as art, literature, music, cinema, theatre, fashion, architecture and food. Critical thinking may be negative, balanced or positive.
I wish I could write everything I researched about what being a critic means right here and now. But it's a ve....ry long epistle. lol.
The underlined words above have had me going on since I found them attached to the word "critic".
Well, I know I'm creative. I can think up new ideas and all but I've never seen myself as being very opinionated. Most times, I feel I make my decisions based on what someone else feels or says. I'm emotional (actually every woman is).
But you know what? You can't be dull to be a critic. You got to think, think and think again. It's more like thinking for thinkers. You assess, review and judge another creative work. That's huge!
A professional critic is paid to produce his/her opinions for print, radio, television and internet companies. An established critic can play a powerful role as public arbiter. A voice of the community. And I'm becoming a fine one. I like where I'm going. *smiles*
"I need you to be controversial. Criticize the news. Be a critic"
This is another new experience for me. It looks challenging, but I know it'll be interesting. I'm excited about this journey to the life of a critic. Just in case I don't find my way back on here as often I'd love to, I'd be on Uche and Moyo. *kisses*
"You only get one life, make the most of it. Be true to yourself. Follow the path that you find inspiring and express yourself in a way that you find satisfying. Only you can tell your story."
Thanks for reading.

I'm laughing at myself right now. I'd mistaken "critique" for "critic" *covers face*
ReplyDeleteBoth words are from the same origin actually. The greek word (kritikē), meaning "the faculty of judgement", that is, discerning the value of persons or things.
I still pass.
LOL. I'm liking this. You will get there!
DeleteLOL. I'm liking this. You will get there!
DeleteAmen. Thanks, Tobi. May our dreams come true and His purpose be fulfilled.
DeleteAre you sure about this???
ReplyDeleteAbout becoming a critic? Yes. Every one has the right to an opinion. Only the few with the sense not or to express it.
DeleteHmmm... I fear for you.
DeleteLol. Please don't. Like I said, I've done my research.
DeleteMany people (as I was too) think a critic sees the world only in a negative way. but I believe a critic sees the world in a more vibrant way. We (proudly including myself now. lol) simply think it all through, and express our opinions.
Ive always seen critics as ppl with good intentions really. If I made something and someone criticises it negatively, I take it in good faith and strive for better. I mean, isn't that what we all want? Go into the community and be the best damn critic!!!! Lol
ReplyDeletehahaha...You catch my drift!
DeleteThanks, Ausserehl.
It's more like an editorial role. You have done it before.
ReplyDeleteOh, I didn't see it that way. Yes, exactly. Editorials review and express opinions. I'm loving "critic" in every word of it. Thanks. Plus, you sound as someone who knows my middlename. hmm...
DeleteHeya, back again with a tag...the sisterhood kind lol.http://blog.ediyemade.com/2014/10/18/when-life-deals-you-lemons-and-you-toss-them-out/
ReplyDeleteEeew... I have not written the previous one. And you tag me on this again? lol. Thamks for the tag, Ausserehl.
DeleteThis is looking like a final year project already :D
Just don't let anything get to you, nothing should be too personal so that you can give your best views and opinions.:)
ReplyDeleteI'll try. Thanks, Ugo :)
DeleteUche and Moyo cease to exist from today. It didn't work out.
