NEWS: Wowzers! Prisoner Graduates with Second Class Upper

You have no idea how I feel when I find one good news out of a million bad news. Such feeling!

Ok, I got a bit skeptical about this news at first. I kept on wondering, "Did he take his exams while in prison?" "Why is he in prison?" "What crime is he being accused of?" Hmm. . .

Anyways, a news sounds good to me when it can make you smile, get you encouraged and make you praise God. Yes o!

Theophilus Adeniyi, an inmate awaiting trial, is a pioneer student of the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN) at its Enugu Prison study centre. Yesterday, he received a second class upper degree in Peace studies and conflict Resolution which was presented by the Controller-General of the Nigerian Prisons Service (NPS), Peter Ekpendu.

I heard it's the first convocation of the centre. It's quite amazing to know that academic activities take place in the prison - Nigerian prison, precisely. As in!

The Deputy Controller of Prisons, Enugu State Command, Felix Lawrence said that Thepohilus made a cummulative GPA of 4.36. He also said that Theophilus was a final year student at Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) when he was arrested and charged to court over a communal basis.

Inspite of the challenges, he graduated so well. This was his remark:

“I promise that I shall at all times uphold the legacies of NOUN and also be a good ambassador. Just few months to my final degree examination in ESUT, I was set up and roped into the matter that I am currently facing trial for, but today I thank God I am a graduate,”

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) even reports that Theophilus got three awards from NOUN, which includes a N50,000 cash award as the best student. Wowzers!

I'm so happy for Theophilus!

This story draws my heart to Joseph in the Bible who went from the prison to the palace.

Prayer: Whatever situation you are in right now, which feels like a pit or a prison, God's glory will meet you there in Jesus' name. Amen.
