Whitney Houston died exactly four years ago. She was born on August 9, 1963 and died on February 11, 2012. You will discover why I remember her as you read through these quotes.
Whitney Houston's Quotes
#1
"From the beginning, the camera and I were great friends. It loves me, and I love it."
#2
"I believe that children are our future. Teach them well and let them lead the way. Show them all the beauty they possess inside."
#3
"I decided long ago never to walk in anyone's shadow; if I fail, or if I succeed at least I did as I believe."
#4
"I almost wish I could be more exciting, that I could match what is happening out there to me."
#5
"My mother taught me that when you stand in the truth and someone tells a lie about you, don't fight it."
#6
"When I decided to be a singer, my mother warned me I'd be alone a lot. Basically we all are. Loneliness comes with life."
#7
"I like being a woman, even in a man's world. After all, men can't wear dresses, but we can wear the pants."
#8
"I've turned down a lot of arena dates because I've done the big-arena thing.
Now, I want to do something whe
When I heard Aretha, I could feel her emotional delivery so clearly. It came from down deep within. That's what I wanted to do."
#9

#10
"No, I'm not a drug addict, and neither is my husband. If that were so, you'd get a lot less work out of me. It would show in the performances and in the work.
Contrary to belief, I do the hitting, he doesn't. He has never put his hands on me. He is not a woman-beater. We are crazy for one another. I mean crazy in love, love, love, love, love. When we're fighting, it's like that's love for us. We're fighting for our love."

"I've read about myself and my husband and my family, to the point where they've called my parents, they've called my brothers, offering money to tell stories. They call friends of mine. I'd just like for them to just . . . don't badger us. Don't scrutinize us. We have children and they have to live, too. It's not fair.
After her years of toiling with her inner demons (her drug issues, her dude of a husband and her declining popularity) she sang:
#12
"about to lose my breathe
There's no more fighting left

Read: Why Do People Die?
Here is the gist: Last week, I visited the bookshop to upgrade my personal library a little. As I was looking through the catalogues, I found this book titled - "the Whitney I knew" by Bebe Winans. I almost felt like it spoke to me, the face of Whitney on the hard cover was surreal. Her smile captivated me. And I didn't know when I picked up the book . . . I bought it!
I read it as soon as I got home. I read it straight up without a break (I couldn't take my eyes off it) for 6 hours. I fell in love with Whitney - the Whitney beyond the Voice. I understand her struggles. I see her pain. I learn from her failures. I tap from her strengths. I appreciate the gift she gave to the world. I now listen to her songs with deeper understanding. She inspires me.
With this book in my hands, Whitney lives in my world. |
'The Whitney I Knew' by Bebe Winans
This is not an advert (I wish it was). But I'd love to write a short review;
Bebe Winans put his soul into this book. I felt his honesty and authenticity. The book opened my eyes to a deeper understanding of human nature, family and God's grace. I bless the day (4/2/16) I picked up 'The Whitney I knew'. It's a powerful book.
Bebe speaks of Whitney’s shortcomings while at the same time covering for her and preserving her honour which I find really admirable. He writes deeply of her death and the emotional roller coaster in the days leading to and after her funeral. It's such a remarkable memoir.
And so I remember Whitney Houston today. Eventhough I wish she had listened more to her heart and loved Jesus a little deeper.
May her soul rest in peace. Amen.
