Here Is A Quick Midnight Reflection On Instagram

Like many other nights, sleep eluded me. After praying for as long as I could manage, I switched on my data. And logged on into Instagram as though the angels were using my pretty long fingers.

Instagram, Really?

I am not such a big fan of Instagram. I often spend less than an hour on the days I decide to log in on the app.

The last time I spent over an hour, I made a mess of myself with makeup. :/

Never again.

I always log out shortly after uploading a picture, liking some pictures and/or commenting on a few pictures. Oh, I watch funny videos too.

But. Something. Different. Happened.

What I was doing there?

I was unfollowing.

One.

Two.

Five.

Ten.

I don't need those whose lives are perfect and all jolly on my social media.

I don't need those who make me wonder why my life is "somehow".

I don't need those who only post pictures of vacation, fun trips and sexy body.

Their life is too good to be a reality.
It is too perfect.
And that can be .  . . very disturbing.

You've had an awesome day, then you are scrolling through pictures. Suddenly, there comes the inevitable torture of wondering why your own life doesn’t look as shiny and perfect. Is that fair?

We get it. You love your boo. You have a baby. But do you really need to post a picture of them every Monday?

If you can’t get through one date without posting a picture of your food or a cute #relationshipgoal super selfie, then you are very disturbing.

Ask yourself why it is so important to post it on Instagram?

As a blogger, media person and entrepreneur, having large following counts on social media is a big deal. We admit to jazzing up our social media accounts to portray a good image, a special brand and an outgoing personality. It's good for business.

However, as a human, who has a heart, scrolling endlessly through updates from people who (I actually know) will give real life context to their pictures and videos makes us happy for them and inspired by them. . . Not jealous.

I prefer broken people. I prefer those who are unashamed to share their dark days as much their bright days. I prefer people who share the stories I can relate to.

Don't use filter to hide the bad blows or crop off the poor angles. Show the world your real life. Is it that bad?

I love social media. Really.

Come to think of it, what's AMAKAMEDIA without social media? Lol. Even if it could give me sleepless nights, it definitely shouldn't cost me my sanity.

Break Away

Well, just in case, if you find yourself always comparing your life to those on your Instafeed, log-off, unplug, and go live a life to be proud of.

Sometimes the best strategy is just to break away completely. It’s just easiest to unplug for a while.

Deleting Facebook off my phone was one of the best things I’ve done in a while. I value my peace so much.

Like I said, this is just a midnight rant because sleep refused to show up. :(

Maybe all I'm saying is: Instagram is not a measure of how beautiful your life really is; it's just a snippet. Go live fully.

Or, maybe I'm also saying: Sharing your moments should include the good, the bad, and the whatever. Just be real.

So, is your life imperfect? Follow me. I'll be glad to give the like button a big punch! :)

Tell me I didn't waste my night by answering one of these: How do you overcome jealousy on social media? Do you think social media is more imaginary than reality? What's the most ridiculous thing you've seen on Instagram?

Thank you.
