Father, You have promised that we can experience the kind of peace that passes all understanding. That's Your kind of peace, Lord. And it's the kind we crave.
Peace In Your Heart
It almost feels like we have to fight for our peace every day. It is becoming harder to find daily peace; not easier.
Our peace is so easily stolen. It takes just a simple glance on social media or a mounting to-do list for uncertainty and restlessness to rise up and overwhelm our hearts with anxiety. A long look at the success and joys of those around you can lure your heart into a never-ending longing for the possessions, personality and positions that we don’t have. Even a quick encounter with a difficult person can quickly take your days of peace.
Ah, it is crucial now more than ever that we allow the peace of God to dwell in our hearts.
- What Is Peace?
John 16:33: Greek Eirene = inner peace, peace with people, peace with God.
Inner peace - the tranquil state of a soul
Peace with people - harmony between individuals; national tranquility; exemption from war
- How Can We Experience Peace Every Day?
The answer is in the Bible:
“Don’t worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.”
~ Philippians 4:6, NLT
- Don't worry about anything
- Pray about everything
- Be thankful for all God has done
Most times the things we worry about do not happen, can we really just stop killing ourselves with thoughts that rub us off of our peace? Let's trust God enough to calm the storms.
- When We Do These Things, What Will Happen?
The answer is also in the Bible:
“If you do this, you will experience God’s peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.”
~ Philippians 4:7, NLT
- Prayer For The Experience Of Peace
I’ve written a prayer for me, for you, and for everyone else who’s hustling and bustling and want to experience peace.
Oh Lord, sometimes my heart feels like a battle zone. Other times I'm caught in an endless storm, with thoughts flying out of control. Confusion reigns, and defeat creeps in to steal my joy. I need your peace; the deep-down-in-your-heart kind that stays with me day and night and speaks confidently into the wind. Calm my anxious spirit, Lord.
Whenever I’m stressed, anxious, or afraid, help me remember to run to you. You're the only one that can calm my fears and end my fretful behaviour. Whether in trivial or heavy matters, I know you will not only give me peace; Lord, you will be my peace. And when I draw close to you—in prayer, in reading your Word, in helping another, in taking my mind off myself—you will be there, up close and personal.
I admit I can't control people, plans, or even all my circumstances, but I can yield those things to you, and focus on your blessings. Thank you today for every good gift you've given, every blessing you've sent, all the forgiveness I did not deserve, and, yes, for every trial You've allowed into my life. You bring good out of every circumstance if I'll only let go and believe you.
Help me cultivate a quiet heart, like a baby content in its mother’s arms, no longer coming to You with a “gimme” spirit but instead calmly nestling in constant intimate fellowship with you where I experience peace. Amen
Have a peaceful week.
Stay inspired.
Let's talk: Do you think there is a difference between having peace and being at peace with God?
