3 Helpful Career Tips From 'Black Panther' 2018 Movie

Everybody loves Black Panther. If you haven't seen 'Black Panther', what are you waiting for? Spoiler alert! Go see it and come back!

Today's #CareerWednesday. I told you here that I was going to share some career lessons from the movie, yeah?  Let's do this!

3 Career Lessons From Black Panther

Some movies don't just entertain, they also teach us valuable lessons about life, the world, and everything. Black Panther is one movie. You just can't get enough of it.

Imagine that yours truly went to the cinema with a notepad because the positive reviews on social media got her all hyped up about the movie. I decided to see 'Black Panther' with an intention to learn something new. Using shorthand techniques, I wrote out quotes and sayings that resonated deeply with me.

When you see someone writing while watching a movie, don't judge them. Lol.

Shuri, the princess of Wakanda and T’Challa’s sister, stole my heart in the movie. She is cool, sassy, fun and intelligent. Not just me, everyone loves her. She is a technological wizard. She worked hard to provide new (and improved technology) to T’Challa and his role as the Black Panther.

Loving how she expressed brilliance, fun and commitment to her work, here are 3 things we can learn from her:

1. There's more room for improvement

To be a good person and a good leader requires you to train and study. To be good at whatever you do, you need to learn and get better and better.

Shuri mentioned that she's been working on a particular suit for a long time and that she kept improving on it every time. She keeps exploring ways to make her work better.

Shuri said in the movie;
"Just because something works doesn’t mean it can’t be improved."
There are things you can do to vastly improve your current processes and abilities. Find ways to improve and then improve!

2. Have fun on the job

Work doesn't have to be dull and boring. Inject a little fun and humour into your workplace without running the risk of losing your job.

Shuri in her outfit(s) in her lab in her element is the dream vibe I seek out every waking moment. Even though she carries a great deal of responsibility, she doesn’t let that stop her from enjoying every bit of it. She teaches us how to have a little more fun on the job, no matter how mundane the role.

You can tell shuri loves what she does by the way she describes her work. . .So passionately! She has this energy that’s almost as infectious as her luminous grin. And that time she calls the silent shoes she gives T'Challa “sneakers”, you can't help but fall in love.

Every time she appears on the scene, you'll either smile or roar with laughter. Shuri is cool like that.

If she can do it, you can, too!

3. Be a good team player

In today's workplace, you have to be able to work with a diverse group of people in various capacities. Want to give yourself an edge for promotion? Want to increase your value? Prove you’re a team player. That’s right—to boost your own profile (and reap the rewards), first you must help others succeed.

Shuri isn't a fighter by nature, but she is willing to jump into battle if duty calls. Despite the fact that T’Challa is a warrior on his own, he believed in his younger sister to create accessories he needed to fight battles. He depended on her, and his belief saved the day.

Shuri finds pleasure in supporting her team, and bringing joy to everyone.

Thank you, Shuri!

Oh, that time she said, “this corset is really uncomfortable, so can we all wrap this up and go home?” Lol. Girl, you killed it!

We're taking it personally 😂

Great movies always give the viewers a lot of room for interpretations. They might not be direct or ‘give’ direct lessons like ‘don’t do this, don’t behave like that,’ but they can definitely help us understand more and can push us to find the answers to certain questions.

Black Panther is much more than a movie.
I certainly hope you all go see it.
Wakanda Forever!!!.

What other lessons did you learn from Black Panther? Share with us.

P.s.s I once said I could be a Velma, but now I am thinking Shuri might be the goal. :D
