5 Things To Learn From Children

Hi sweethearts of my blogosphere. I hope you enjoyed the holiday? What did you do? Where did you go? I did so much that coming here was almost totally impossible. But glad I'm here now. Yay. Let's feign the excitement once again. Yay, lol.

Spending time with a friend's daughter during the holiday got me all mushy and stuff.

Lessons From Children

I think my profound love for children has just been rekindled by the awesome moment I had with my friend's little daughter during the holiday. She is such a cutie. Aww!

Not only did she get me to remember what it was like to be a kid, she also reminded me about the super-awesome time I had being a children teacher/storyteller!

Yes, I used to be a children teacher. And I used to be a children storyteller on radio. Yes, really. I hosted a programme called "The AAK Show" on FUTA Radio some years back. One of the major highlights of the show were the funniest answers kids gave to the questions asked about the story I told. The answers were often hilarious – even if the kids weren't in on the joke. They were so much fun.

So I have always had a soft spot for children.

Even though it is ideal to always take your children-students seriously when they are being honest and vulnerable with you, there will be moments when you can't believe how hilarious they are. It is always a refreshingly memorable experience.

Here are 5 lessons adults can learn from children:

1. Everyone Is Special To Children

Have you noticed the admiration they have in their eyes when they look at you and everybody around you? That sparkle. . . They see everybody through their innocent and beautiful eyes, and they see everybody as being special and unique and that’s exactly what we all are. It’s just that our lenses have become so dirty that we can no longer see reality as clearly as children do.

2. Children Laugh Everywhere

Children have the beautiful ability to find joy all around them. Just watch the humour a child can find in a shopping mall or at the park. They see silliness everywhere. They laugh freely. They are jolly good humans.

3. Children Play A Lot

When we were younger, playing outside was the highlight of our day. We would run and chase our friends until we were out of breath and our legs were shaking. We never thought of it as “exercise” or “daily fitness.” It was just playing. And it was fun.

“It is a happy talent to know how to play.” ~ Ralph Waldo Emerson

4. Children Are Always Happy

I want to be happy, you want to be happy, she /he wants to be happy. . . We all want to be happy, there is no doubt about it and deep down inside we both now it can be done. It may take more or less time, energy and work but if you are open and willing to move in that direction, in time you will be able to achieve just that.

5. Children Love To Have Fun

Every children programme is different: Some are more academic and others more play-oriented. But you can count on certain basics. . . They absorb more knowledge when they are having fun.

There is so much to learn from children if we will be patient and humble enough to listen.

Bonus: Children Grow Up So Fast

They grow up so fast, it can make your head spin. It just seems like yesterday they were drooling and smiling and could only be on their back. . . But today. . . today. . .

Lol. I am not sure whether the fact that children grow up so fast is a lesson yet. Do you think it is? Share your thoughts.

What lessons have you learnt growing up?
