To clear up the webs on this space, let me showcase what I wore to church today. :)
Double-Wrapper Style For Women's Day
First of all, Happy Women's Day to every woman out there — whether single or married. I celebrate you.
Secondly, I am ashamed of myself today. I was struggling to wear what women were asked to wear to church — two wrappers.
I know that a lot of women can relate with the tying of wrapper in this part of the world (Nigeria). It’s our culture as African women to tie wrapper.
Even though I had been rehearsing how to wear the double-wrapper style while I was single, I still couldn't wear it properly this morning. It's shameful sha.
There’s an art to tying a perfect wrapper – When you tie the wrapper wrongly, you’ll discover that you won’t walk ten steps without it getting in your way and pulling you to the ground. The most difficult part of tying the double wrapper is getting the inner wrapper right, so that you are comfortable walking in it.

Thankful for the older woman who took me to a corner and taught me how to tie the two wrappers properly.
Back in the day, in the 70s and 80s, tying wrappers was a BIG DEAL. During marriage ceremonies, a man is known to be able to take care of his wife by the number of wrappers he buys her as tradition requires. The woman on her part immediately starts wearing these wrappers to show how well her husband is taking care of her. In fact, the type of wrappers you wear or have in your box shows how wealthy your husband is.
But times have changed. Things have changed. We have mixed up with other cultures to the extent that it has rubbed off on our traditions. We have embraced other cultures and now see ours as awkward or old fashioned. Many see ‘wrapper tying women’ as 'village women’, or women with no ambition and unattractive. To some, the sight of wrapper even irritates them – a thing to be worn by only illiterates. The most disheartening part of this is that even some of our African women feel just the same way.
Yeah. I felt the same way earlier today. Awkward. Different. A bit unattractive too.

Let us bring back our heritage, let us teach our daughters how to tie wrappers, let us look sexy in wrappers at home and outside for our husbands.
My husband, Kachi said "baby, you are beautiful" more than once on our way to church today. He meant it.

Cheers to women who wear this every week. I can't. Lol.
Thanks for sticking with me.
Wishing you beautiful days ahead.
Stay positive.
Stay inspired.
Stay be-you-tiful.
