For My Parents
*goes to Google*
*types what day is parent appreciation day?*
*gasp*
No matter what date it is, we should never fail to celebrate our parents. Let's appreciate their important role in our lives. It's not easy.
At this point in my life, I’m considered an adult. Yes, maybe sometimes I don’t completely act like it, but that’s part of life, right? As I’m growing up, I realize just how much my parents did for me. And, for that, I need to truly be grateful.
Daddy, I would never forget that look in your eyes. That moment you told me how proud you were when I did what I’m capable of. Thank you for making me realize that I’m worth everything in this world. That I must be treated like a princess, and that I should never settle for less than what I deserve.
Mummy, I will always cherish the fact that you are my first and best teacher ever. Thank you for getting mad at me when my report card didn’t show the best results. Thank you for making me realize that I can put more time into my work and improve my performance.
Daddy, thank you for being so strict with your rules that I missed out on some moments that could have led me down the wrong path. Thank you for standing your ground when I begged to go somewhere or do something that, in hindsight, could have introduced me to things that would destroy my future (designed by God) forever.
Mummy, thank you for understanding when I take a leap of faith. Twice you gave me capital to start my business (sadly, the business failed). I appreciate you for supporting me in my journey even when it didn’t seem logical at times. Thank you for recognizing what I need to do, and hearing me out.
So, today, I pray for two of you . . .
That's me sitting pretty between my parents— when I had all the love and attention just before my brother showed up 😏 |

“Dear Lord, I surrender my mum and dad to you. Lord Jesus, I pray for my parents in your name. I thank you for all the ways You used my parent to shape me. What a precious gift!
Any time they start to feel that all the trouble they took for my brothers and I (or their marriage) are being wasted, help them to see the great reward waiting for them in Heaven. Help my parents to forgive themselves and forgive everyone else. And that they will not become discouraged in aging.
Lord, help my parent flourish—“like the palm tree. . .bearing fruit in their old age”—with an eternal perspective. May they continue to be a model and inspiration to many. Give my parents joy and strength. Fill them with your strengthening presence. Lord, give them real thirst and hunger for the Holy Spirit and for the Word of God. Give them health in spirit, soul and body.
Lord, I ask you that you protect my parents from the evil one. Fill them with your Holy Spirit. May they be filled with joy and peace. Lord, help them to live holy and blameless before You, for as long as You allow. In the name of Jesus I pray. Amen.
Thank you Jesus. Amen”
My parents' pre-wedding photo 😊😍. Just look at those cuties! |
You two are among the greatest gifts of my life! Without each of you, I’d be nowhere near the person I am — and the person I’m becoming. THANK YOU.
May God continue to bless you and your generations. Amen!

I wouldn't say that my parents are the ideal model of what a marriage should be. But then, marriage is hard, and I know they do their best. I’ve learned some good lessons from them, like the value of sticking things out through hard times, but also, some not-so-great ones that I won’t put them on blast for here.
P.s The look-away pose was really a thing back in the days. I like looking at their old photos.
P.s.s I shared a bit about my parents in 'He Wasn't My Husband'.
