It's a new day! What a great day to be alive! Thanks for joining me on this journey of keeping track of my life. I will be 30 on the 26th day of the coolest month of the year. And I have been sharing my lessons from being a 20-something right at the start of June.
This is the fifteenth lesson. I hope it inspires you in some way. Happy reading!
God Has A Track Record In My Life
Each year, I got myself a private diary to pour out my emotions, say what I would have said to a best friend, and just write.
At 24, I launched this blog as a birthday gift to myself. I didn't exactly know what I was doing but I knew it was the best thing to do at the time. I wanted to share my feelings and thoughts with the world.
Every post on this blog is a track record of my life.
Don't get it twisted thinking that #20Lessons20 are the only things I learned in my 20s. What do you think I have been blogging about in the past six years?
A-ha!
I need you to do me a favour. I don’t plan to ask often. I think this will be worth your time.
I’d like for you to do a little exercise:
- Get a book and a pen.
- Stroll Down Memory Lane. I need you to go down memory lane. Consider a time when your circumstances looked bleak.
You had an extra year
You were broke
You were jobless
You were experiencing relationship troubles.
You were heartbroken
You lost your job
Your colleagues were gossiping about you
You quit your job
Your stroll may be different but do this. This is how you see God at work in your life per time.
Sometimes I wish that the older women we admire at the top — General overseers wives, first ladies, international business owners, our grand mothers, etc — had personal lifestyle blogs in their twenties. It would have made so much sense. We would have gleaned more from them because we would have a clue about what they did per time based on what they shared on their blogs. . .in their own yellow shoes.
Nevertheless, I’m really enjoying this stage of life where everyone — friends, coworkers, family members — seems to be more open and vulnerable on social media. I think it’s also what's in vogue in our society right now — hard truths coming out of the woodwork; celebrities opening up about their struggles; and everyone generally spilling their secrets. And I’m all here for it.
I love to read real stories of real people. Just like the Bible is filled with real stories of real people. I am not a big fan of fiction. Take me on a journey back to your life and draw me into it. It's even more exciting when you are taking me on the journey just right before you turned the other way.
And this is what I am achieving with my blog. By the grace of God!
I write in my diary to keep track of God's workings in my life.
I know I am a woman going somewhere great. And I don't want to get there first before sharing my story. The testimony will be sweeter because you already have the raw and unfiltered gist of the backstory.
Want to keep track of your life?
3. Search your heart.
4. Find your heart rays
Feel your feelings. Capture the Memory. Interrogate the memory. Yes, ask it a few questions. Why did it happen? How did you feel? What happened to change the circumstance? Who helped you? Was the outcome expected?
David asked the Lord, "Search my heart and investigate my life. . ."
Ask God to help you. Look for Him.
Can you see Him? God. Can you see Him in that situation?
Find Him. He’s there, I know He is.

5. Record your own answers. Ask yourself, what did God do in that situation? How did they change? Did things seem awful then, but you see them as a blessing now?
Answering these questions is just one instance of God’s Track Record. If you feel like you couldn’t find Him, search another memory.

You need these records. I believe strongly that having these memories at your disposal will help you place your confidence where is should rightly be.
You may not necessarily make your diary public, but by all means, write something about it while your experience is steaming hot.
You will be thankful for it.
Most people say your 20s are a “selfish” time — and while I don’t totally agree, I think I took a lot of time in my 20s to find myself. And at the same time, I feel like I've been giving back a wealth of knowledge while still figuring out what’s happening in my life.
I am thankful for documenting my 20s on this blog. I hope to share more in my 30s.
Thank you for reading.
