I had the title of this post yesterday, but didn't get an idea of what the contents would be. What do you think about it? Or I should ask it this way, how does your heart see it?
"What shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world and lose his own soul"? Mark 8:36
The world can be a field, a business, an experience, a memory, a possession, a person (like someone said yesterday, "You mean the world to me." I will give you that gist later.) etc.
We can be consumed with our pursuit for the world that we neglect our true identity. There are so many things to gain. Love, money, fame, peace and happiness, are the top of most lists. But the issue lies in our attempts to get all these and lose our souls in the process.
It is not a sin to be rich or famous but there are some of these things that you will get which will cause an irreversible change in you that can be very bad. Things which make you lose touch, weaken your spirit and drain you out. That is what we should look out for. We must guard our hearts.
The first world you should gain is that of your inner self. Discover your core values to focus your heart on God and rule your own world. Understand who you really are. There will be a problem if you don't even know who you are. You are probably losing your soul bits by pieces everyday as you live without knowing.
We fight for our love, passion, wealth, purpose and dreams everyday. We can achieve our set goals and possess all we ever desire. We can also get the name and the fame but at the end of the day, what shall it profit a man?
The worldly things are nothing compared to the eternal salvation of the soul. They are temporal.
So what is the world to you? What are you exchanging?
I just think I should know what the world means so I don't go all about gaining it (at the expense of my soul).
I'm going somewhere. . .
