Hiya! We're having WWA today! *smiles* Do you ever get to read the Bible aloud for others to hear? Me too. So it's very likely to have seen and pronounce these names - wrongly.
We have three lessons today. Are you ready?!
Lesson 7
Word: Shadrach
Pronunciation: (Not so phonetically written but as exactly pronounced like a Nigerian)
I had always pronounced the "shad" as "shed". But discovered the right pronunciation is "shad"
Wrong = \ˈshed.rak\
Right = \ˈshad.drak\
Right = \ˈshad.drak\
Listen below:
If you know anyone who bears the name 'Shadrach', ask him what he feels like to had been pronouncing one's very own name wrongly. It will be an "aha!" moment, I can imagine.
Lesson 8
Word: Deborah
Word: Deborah
Pronunciation: (Not so phonetically written but as exactly pronounced like a Nigerian)
Wrong = \de.ˈbo.ra\
Right = \ˈde.brə \
Right = \ˈde.brə \
Listen below:
Lovely name. We do have a Deborah on Heart Rays. Is she here? Hi Sweet Debbie. :)
Lesson 9
Word: Jabez
Word: Jabez
Pronunciation: (Not so phonetically written but as exactly pronounced like a Nigerian)
I had always pronounced the "ja" as "ja". But discovered the right pronunciation is "jei"
Wrong = \ˈja.bez\
Right = \ˈjei.bez\
Right = \ˈjei.bez\
Listen below:
Hmmm . . . I've actually never seen anybody named Jabez (apart from that guy in the Bible). Have you?
OK. That's it for today. Class resumes in two weeks. Meanwhile, I'd appreciate questions and suggestions in the comment box below.
