This is not exactly what a book review should look like. But hey, it's me sharing what I find interesting and helpful with you. *winks*
'Flashes Of Thought' By Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoun
The first impression I had about this book was that it has got to be about politics and government. Knowing I'm not keen on politics, I didn't see why I should read the book. (that's me literally judging a book by its cover there again) But when I turned over its pages, my thought changed . . .
Flashes of thought by Mohammed Bin Ladin Al Maktoun is a collection of experiences, ideas and thoughts from the author. The author is someone I have come to respect, admire and love.
See Also: 'My Vision' by the same author.
While I was reading, I jotted the points that particularly hit me, and made me jump off my seat. If I'm ever going to write a book, Sheikh Mohammed will be on the reference page. Yeah.
These are my flashes of thought about Mohammed Bin Ladin Al Maktoun's 'Flashes of thoughts' . . .
From the book: I was asked how to become creative, I replied that we should get accustomed to not getting accustomed. Accustoming yourself to a situation gives you comfort, whereas change requires hard work and getting out of your comfort zone.
My thought: Hmm . . . Get accustomed to not getting accustomed . . . Hmm . . . sounds really good to me! Amaka, you can't afford to be comfortable here!
From the book: It is imperative to look at the rest of the world with a competitive spirit, for the day we lose this spirit will mark the beginning of our regression. We keep striving to be number one, nobody remembers number two.
My thought: I really don't like competition but if it makes me become better at who I am and what I do, then I agree with you on this one! Life is not a competition, but some things are.
From the book: Great men are desired by the challenges they take up. Challenges brings out a person's worst and best sides.
My thought: Been there, done that. I know exactly what you mean sir! I should even start asking God for greater challenges. Lol.
From the book: I am a believer of positivity. I believe that positive energy and optimism help us to take up any challenge in life and to succeed in even the most difficult tasks. I believe that all of our actions and accomplishments are simply a reflection of what we bear in our hearts.
My thought: A-ha! You can say that again! Mehn, there is this tingling feeling I get when I find someone far ahead of me, who believes in my tenets - positivity, inspiration and love. I love you sir!
And so that was how I kept on reading the book till I got to the last page - the 144th page.
I'd recommend it anyone who wants to excel in his/her craft, art, profession or ministry. It is worth reading.
