Leaders Are Mostly Morning People

Hiya! Praise the Lord! We've already covered 7 chapters out of the 24 chapters in the book of Joshua. Glory! May each Word that we have received bear much more fruits in our hearts in Jesus name. Amen.

Before we move over to the 8th chapter, my mind is drawn to something about Joshua . . .

Joshua Was An Early Riser

You know that moment when you want to turn over to the next page and your eyes catch a word that makes you stop to think? Yes, that was what happened when I was about to turn over to chapter 8.

I saw this:

Joshua 7:16 - So Joshua rose early in the morning . . .

"What is it about Joshua rising in the morning?"

Then I saw:

Joshua 6:12 - And Joshua rose early in the morning . . .

And this:

Joshua 3:1 - Then Joshua rose early in the morning . . .

"Lord, what is it about rising up early in the morning eh?"

"If Joshua did not rise early, the people of Isreal would not have been entered into their promised land!"

"Ah. Ehen?"

I am thinking this Word is for somebody else out there because I am already a morning person. Perhaps God wants me to be a BETTER morning person. *scratches head*

I am both a night owl and an ealy bird.

Waking up early (whether I sleep or not) has never been a problem. Rising early has always come naturally to me for as long as I can remember. But I’m convinced that God must be a morning “person” — and He likes morning people, too.

The big deal is God’s Word is filled with references to the importance of the morning:

“Through the Lord’s mercies we are not consumed, because His compassions fail not. They are new every MORNING… ”
~ Lamentations 3:22-23

“You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up [in the MORNING].”
~ Deuteronomy 6:7

“Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the MORNING.”
~ Psalm 30:5b

“And in the MORNING, rising up a great while before day, He went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.”
~ Mark 1:35
These are just a few of many examples of God at work with people in the morning — EARLY in the morning in most cases!
Go to any online Bible and search for the word “morning”, you'd be amazed by what you discover.

I recently went through one of the most spiritually (or was it emotional?) challenging phase in my life. I started to learn about the battle for our minds, and what it means to “take every thought captive to the obedience of Christ” (2 Cor. 10:5) and to “guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus” (Phil. 4:7). And this battle starts the minute you wake up and consciously begin your day.

Being a morning person is about starting your day right with God and meditating on His truth.

Joshua would never have got a clear cut direction on what to do throughout the day if He didn't rise up early to meet with God.

You can be a morning person. It doesn’t have to be an hour-long, organized, mapped out, out-of-bed experience. It’s simply about you and God connecting; it’s about starting your day with the right perspective.

It might be five minutes, fifteen minutes, or an hour . . . or two. It could be about reading a chapter of the Bible, a one-page devotion with a key verse, or more, or less. You could write. You could sing out loud or you could just listen to silence.
Let God lead you in those details and direct you to what it is that you need for this moment in time.

I know this for sure (now): God wants to meet me very early in the morning. Just because His mercies are new every morning - He wants me to receive His gift, His blessing, His direction each and every morning. Blessed.

Are you more of a morning person or a night person? When do you connect with God most deeply?
