How To Know A Fool (10 Things They Do)

Hi sweets. How was your weekend? Sure you had more awesome moments than awkward. Huh?

One time I sat down and asked myself "Come, Amaka, are you not just being foolish here?" It was a your-mumu-don-do moment for me. I had to re-adjust and re-align my heart to the most important thing.

Looking back, I think it was God practically taking me through a study on the foolishness of men. Let’s explore the Bible to help us define who a fool really is . . .

Who A Fool Is

We've heard it over and over and over again that the Bible is the greatest book in the world. It is the textbook of all textbooks, the dictionary of all dictionaries and the concordance of all concordances. It is great like that.

The Word of God is the basis and ultimate authority for our definitions and conclusions.

The Bible defines A Fool in several verses, this is but one of the reasons why the study of “who a fool is” is important.

I pray today's post inspires you to discern the fools in your life and be able to avoid them. I also pray that your heart be enlightened on the areas where you have been acting as a fool.

Let's get to it.

  • A Fool Says There Is No God
The fool says in his heart, ‘There is no God'” (Psalm 14:1)

A fool denies God. It's easy to say this verse only refers to atheists, but it also refers to us when we say in our hearts that God does not exist in a particular situation or place.

There are seasons when we go through very hard times, and start to doubt our beliefs. That right there is being foolish.

  • A Fool Talks Too Much
“The mouth of a fool brings ruin near.”
~ Proverbs 10:14)

You are a fool if when you are in the midst of people, and all you do is talk, talk and talk. A fool gives no room for others to share their opinion or express themselves.

A fool does not care about learning or improving. He’s too busy talking. Talking about himself or very irrelevant things. We can also say a gossip is a fool.

  • A Fool Condemns People
“Whoever utters slander is a fool.”
 ~ Proverbs 10:18

A fool speaks poorly of other people rather than be known as an encourager. Anyone who only criticizes you without profering solutions or rending help is a fool. A fool is full of negative remarks, he never sees any good in others.

  • A Fool Plays With Sin
“doing wrong is like a joke to a fool.”
~ Proverbs 10:23

A fool does not take sin or its consequences seriously. They joke with sin like God does not exist. Disobedience to God and those in authority gives them pleasure. Sinful actions are adventures for fools.

Someone who commits fornication and brags about it, is that one a wise Christian?
Someone who lies and deceives to make money, and then brags about it, is that one a wise Christian?

  • A Fool Thinks He Is Never Wrong
“The way of a fool is right in his own eyes,”
~ Proverbs 12:15

There is no greater fool than the fool who thinks himself as wise. You are a fool if you reject the advice of others and listen only to yourself. No matter how many people points out a fool's mistakes, he stands to defend himself and justify his actions. Are you like that?

This one hit me. Yours truly needs to be humble enough to take corrections and learn from the least person.

  • A Fool Is Proud To Be Foolish
“A fool flaunts his folly.”
~ Proverbs 13:16)

It is rather sad that a foolish person is proud of his wrong actions. You are acting stupid, and you are proud to say it. Tufiakwa!

  • A Fool Screams When Angry
"A fool gives full vent to his anger'”
~ Proverbs 29:11

This verse explains itself. A fool yells at the slightest moment of provocation. When you pour out your rage, without consideration, you are a fool. Can you remain calm no matter what happens?

  • A Fool Is Careless
“a fool is reckless and careless.”
~ Proverbs 14:16

A fool does not plan ahead but rather live each day without considering the impact his actions have on himself and others. A fool does not keep things in place. A fool loses his things, friends, goals, etc without a care.

Hmmm . . . Carelessness is foolishness.

  • A Fool Repeats Mistakes
“As a dog returns to its vomit, so fools repeat their folly.”
~ Proverbs 26:11

A fool never learns from past mistakes. When you keep repeating the same mistake over and over again, you are a fool. In fact, allowing a mistake to occur a second time makes you a fool. Ouch!

  • A Fool Has No Regard For His Parent
“a fool despises his father’s instruction.”
~ Proverbs 15:5

A fool does not listen to his parents or obey them. In fact, he spurns what his father says. Anyone who never considers the instruction of parents is a fool. Dishonouring your parents is foolishness. Full stop.

There are a lot more Bible verses about who a fool is. Please let's share more discoveries in the comment box. Thank you. :)

Let Us Stop Foolishness

Our mumu don do!

We all make foolish decisions but that doesn’t make us a fool. There is a distinct difference between being a fool and making foolish choices. It is possible to reduce/stop our foolishness with two principle choices: the decision to trust God and the decision to not rely on ourselves.

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He will make your paths straight. Do not be wise in your own eyes; Fear the Lord and turn away from evil
~ Proverbs 3:5-7

God has infinite wisdom, the person who neglects God will naturally miss out on wisdom—he will be a fool. A fool is anyone who does not follow the warnings and commands of God.

I believe those of us currently trusting God for life partners (or business partners sef) need more grace to be able to recognize a fool. There is nothing more miserable than being in a relationship with a fool.

Walk with the wise and become wise, for a companion of fools suffers harm.”

Happy New Week, sweeties.
The world needs us to express wisdom this week.
Be wise. Stay wise. Stay inspired.
