I am very sure that you've already heard about the popular blogger, Linda Ikeji's pregnancy, it's been trending on social media since yesterday! But that is not where we are going with today's post. Thought to first clear the air. Lol.
I just want to encourage us because when we are expecting something great for our future, we are essentially "pregnant" and waiting to birth what we hope for.
Pregnant With A Word
We have all seen pregnant women at various times in our life. In the case of married women, we just naturally assume that the woman’s husband is the father of the child (and hopefully we’re right!) But sometimes we encounter unmarried women who are pregnant and one of the first questions that invariable comes up is,
“who is the father?”
It’s a natural question to ask, particularly when the mother is not married. But it also raises an interesting question in our own lives as Christians.
Who gave you that dream in your heart? Who sowed that "seed" in your heart?
Pregnancy and birthing are the rhythms of the Christian life. We are like expectant mothers, surrendering our lives so that we may birth God’s new life in the world. We offer ourselves as spaces where God can birth good news.
In Matthew 1:18 we are told that before Mary got married to Joseph, she was “found to be with child by the Holy Spirit.” This has to be one of the most amazing and profound statements in the Bible. But beyond being a powerful display of God’s power in the birth of Jesus as a man, this story also gives us insight into how God works to accomplish His purposes in the earth.
We too are “found to be with child by the Holy Spirit” just as Mary was, when the “seed” of God’s Word is planted in our hearts through the power of The Holy Spirit.
The Word attaches itself to us and begins to grow just as a child grows in its mother’s womb. And just like natural childbirth, if this “seed” that was sown in us is allowed to grow to full maturity, it will produce the “fruit of the womb” in the form of whatever word or promise of God we have believed.
You may be going through stuff. All of the weight, pressure, stretching, unusual experiences . . . it’s all apart of being pregnant. But here is what we know, the baby MUST come out, and when it does, we will see that all of the preparation was worth it.
Your situation may even appear impossible, the very opposite of what God has promised. Be encouraged, the Lord is with you and present in the midst of the impossibilities you may be facing.
When God's perfect timing comes for you to deliver what He has put in you, He will be there to help you birth it. Don't give way to frustration. God has your dream in His hands—because it's His dream too!
