Don't Do Things You Will Regret Later

I will be hitting the big three-0 on the 26th day of the coolest month. And like I told you last week, I will be sharing lessons from being a 20-something just before my journey into 30s begins.

This is the second lesson. I hope it inspires you in some way. Happy reading!

Do It Anyway

do it anyway

I was a good girl.

I had always been a good girl.

My parents trained me in the way that I should go. But it was my choice whether to stay in or to depart away from that way.

For two decades, I stayed in the path. I didn't do what I shouldn't be caught doing. I remained obedient to them. Obedient to God. And obedient to the Spirit within.

At 21, I wanted to have a glimpse of what life could be as a bad girl.

I was curious.

I sat down and made a list of goals I wanted to accomplish.

The goals were ambitious and I took this list very seriously, at least for the first few years.

Some of the things I had on my list were:
  1. I want to get drunk and see what happens
  2. I want to have boyfriend to call mine
  3. I want to go on romantic dates
  4. I want to do a photoshoot (wasn't so popular back then)
  5. I want to travel out and see the world
  6. I want to "enter" an aeroplane
  7. I want to have sex
  8. . . .etc.

Today, I’ve accomplished about 1/4 of those goals. I’ve made significant progress on another 1/4. I've done nothing about the other 1/4. And I don't think I will ever do anything about the last 1/4.

But I've realized I am what I am because of the choices I made — the things I did and the things I didn't do.

RELATED: Things We Do For Love

Let me ask you this:
In life, do we regret the things we didn't do or do we regret the things we do?

When you really really think about it, you hardly ever look back and wish you didn’t do something.

Hold up. There are obvious exceptions to this statement. Things such as: Murder, Rape, Drugs, Stupid tattoos, etc. are obviously things that you’d regret or wish you didn’t do.

But I’m not talking about these types of things. I’m talking about things like going out on a date. Things like going to see a movie, taking the chance to go on an outing with family, traveling or going on a tour with an old friend.

The little things. They matter the most.

Whenever you’re faced with a situation where you have an opportunity to do something or more importantly, to experience something new, you should always accept it and seize the chance.

There are clearly some exceptions to this, such as dangerous drug use, or doing things which put you at serious risk, but for the safe (good and godly) things and the experiences which will enrich your life, say yes. Yes, yes!

Me at 21.

Super grateful for my 20s. In my 20s, I did a couple of things which I did not imagine that I would do.

Tomorrow, I'm going to tell you about the first time I went out clubbing. Be right back!

"For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world, and loses his own soul?"
— Mark 8:36
