PREGNANCY STYLE: Tips for Styling Your Baby Bump in Brown

After church that Sunday, I decided to take a few photos. Nothing fancy—just us, in our Sunday best, with my growing baby bump taking center stage.

As someone who is pretty practical when it comes to investing in my wardrobe (and who is almost positive this is my last time doing this?), I really made an effort to maximize the number of bump-accommodating pieces I already owned to the fullest…while also still maintaining some sense of…togetherness — and personal style.

I’d been more than intentional about how I wanted to tend to and celebrate my last pregnancy. It was almost addictive. The pictures weren’t always enough. Lol.

There is a glow that only pregnancy can give. Brown is one of the colours that effortlessly complements that glow. It’s a neutral that feels rich and sophisticated, yet it’s soft enough to evoke a sense of comfort. Plus, it pairs beautifully with earthy tones, or even pops of colour.

To elevate my look, I wore an Ankara scarf. You know I live for that fabric. 😉

Not a fan of prints, or loud colours? Go for sophisticated maternity style and embrace a neutral and monochromatic look for days when you want to dress to impress.

Coordinating outfits with Kachi was probably my favourite part! I wanted us to look cohesive but not overly matched. My husband kept it classic with a neutral-toned senator style that complemented my outfit, and my girls wore adorable outfits that brought pops of colour to the photos.

You know, it wasn’t just about the outfit; it was about how it made me feel. I felt beautiful, glowing even, in a way that only pregnancy could bring.

Tips for Styling Your Baby Bump in Brown

If you’re considering brown for your maternity wardrobe, here are a few tips to make it work:

  1. Play with Shades: Brown comes in many tones—from chocolate to tan to caramel. Mixing different shades can create a dynamic, layered look.
  2. Add Texture: Look for fabrics like knits, satin, or linen to bring depth and interest to your outfit.
  3. Accessorize Thoughtfully: Gold jewelry, nude shoes, or even a pop of Ankara can make a brown outfit stand out.
  4. Focus on Fit: Choose pieces that highlight your bump without clinging too tightly. Flowy dresses, wrap tops, and high-waisted skirts are all great options.

Brown is one of those colours that doesn’t get enough credit. It’s warm, earthy, and surprisingly versatile. And as I navigated this beautiful season of pregnancy, I found it to be one of my favourite colours to wear.

And now, every time I look back at these photos, I’ll remember the beauty of this moment—not just in what I wore, but also in the love that surrounded me.

To all my fellow mamas out there: whatever you wear, wear it with pride. This season is fleeting, but the memories will last forever.

Thank you for sharing a part of this journey with me.
